Alaa Portfolio
My work in arts, reflects my native country of Saudi Arabia and represents a fusion of the traditional and the modern.
I like to face the challenge of approaching a piece of work that might seem impossible in the initial stages. I like to find a way to overcome these challenges. When I am at the stage of searching for inspiration, I often look to the cities of my country and their history or I research a historic event. This may form the basis for my initial idea, which will then progress and take several forms and stages until it is completed. I like the juxtaposition of historic styles with new, modern styles and explore this through my own personal style. I acknowledge the credit I have received for my work, but I am also aware of its limitations and aspects. However, becoming familiar with handling the material. I intend to familiarise myself more with accomplished works in clay, class, wood, metal and fabrics by viewing objects, reading articles and to research the sourcing of such materials for practical purposes.
For example in clay ,I follow the technique of testing the results of different materials added to clay and use degrees of firing, taking advantage of facilities which are better in the UK than in my home country, allowing improved monitoring.
I seek to gain further knowledge and experience of changes that occur in conventional and alternative types of materials, extending my experience of combination with metals.
Describe your current practice?
The centre of the artistic community has an increased interest in the arts specially porcelain because it is the art that encourages me to have a challenge to face any difficulties in this field.
By completing my studying in the collage and discovering new searches related to art, my interest in this type of art has increased. The most important reason why this type is precious is that it has deep roots connected to the arts of the Islam and its relationship to the natural sources where I live. In addition to that, the art is rolling and is wider modernises, also it is considered as the most diverse arts which helps to understand some elements of the environment and this in turn inspires me to innovate and design new pieces, also it is considered as the most diverse arts which helps to understand some elements of the environment and this in turn inspires me to innovate and design new pieces. With time, I will improve myself and after finishing my degree in this subject, and being professional, I will realise my dream in establishing an academic centre dedicated to arts education and working in an educational institution to be active and positive toward myself and my society.
What do you want to achieve in your chosen MA Programmer?
I really have chosen to study master's degree in England especially at Salford University for several reasons; such as the identification of a new society and new ideas help to inspire new artistic and innovative ideas, and most important benefit of English language proficiency is to improve my chances of future employment and to acquire new experiences in many aspects like precision and professionalism
Tell us how you will go about achieving the above?
With the opportunity I have had to study during my four years at university, and all the artists and potters I have met at various exhibitions, I have discovered the numerous methods and techniques involved in the art of ceramics. During this time, it was my ambition to learn to complete my studies in all types of clay and sources of each type of clay. I also wanted to understand the different results achieved after firing pieces and how the addition of external substances and materials can produce strange and interesting effects. I was able to study all these elements in college and was often inspired by the ideas of artists I came into contact with I hope that by pursuing my subject at Masters level I will be able to learn new techniques, especially in the use of colour, which is one area of particular interest to me. I hope to work with different materials which might not be readily available in my home country.
Please give an indication of resources you think you will need.
On my MA course, I propose to investigate at art and communication , becoming familiar with handling the material. I intend to familiarise myself more with accomplished works and reading articles and to research the sourcing for practical purposes.
I propose testing the results of different element of art taking advantage of facilities which are better in the UK than in my home country, allowing improved monitoring.
What do you hope to be doing in 5................?
IThe sky is the limit in my ambition to study arts and I hope to be the first Saudi woman to become a professor in art .
